应环境科学系陈兰洲教授邀请，意大利佛罗伦萨大学农业生物技术系Roberto De Philippis教授将于5月7日抵达武汉，开展为期20天的学术交流。De Philippis教授是国际应用藻类学会执行委员会理事长和《Journal of Applied Phycology》杂志编委。他对藻类去除重金属污染、蓝藻多糖的结构、功能和生态学效应的研究有着突出的成绩和丰富的经验积累，是国际上该领域有重要影响力的科学家之一。在此期间，De Philippis教授将于5月8日至28面对本科生及研究生开设名为《Microbial photosynthesis and its exploitation in environmentally sustainable biotechnological processes》的课程，并每周四小组讨论当前环境生物学研究的热点问题。
